Going Global

I have decided to sell my creations internationally. I have been selling on eBay since 2005, and have sold to the United States only. I think I have been intimidated with all the rules and customs and such. But I have learned a lot since I started selling, and I feel confident now, so I think the time is right to give it a shot.
I hope to have a new "Pixie Moppet" on eBay soon. I will post when I list her.
Well I'm off to create...lol

  1. I think you will be so glad that you are expanding your horizons (so to speak LOL). Living in Canada, when I started selling there was no option but to sell internationally as that is where the market was at that time.

It really is quite easy to ship internationally - a little scarey at first, but soon it will become old hat.

One thing - use USPS to send items out of the US. Courier companies have huge brokerage fees that are the responsibility of the buyer to pay - AND they will not thank you for it. There are no brokerage fees with the mail service. There may be entry taxes for whatever country you are sending to, but the customer will be aware of this and won't quibble about them (at least not to you - they may complain to their government LOL).

    Good luck!

    Sue:)

  2. Hi Dessa! Yes...I agree with Sue. I sold misc items along with my dolls on ebay over the last 12 years. The international buyers that I have had were great to work with. I think you will be fine.
Best wishes on your new endeavor. ;-)

  3. Sue, Thank you so much for the wonderful post. It really helps to get other artist's perspective. I had wondered whether or not to ship USPS exclusively. With the information that you have given me it makes my decision so much easier. Thanks again so much, I feel much more confident now.

  10. So Dark So Cute, That's great your selling to Russia!! Was it complicated? How did you send it, first class or Priority?

  11. well, i know i forgot to send it insured. I guess it was priority? It's not complicated because most people are paying with paypal :-)
The postoffice can tell you what sort of options they have. And the postoffices here in the Netherlands (TNT) are having a lot of information on their internet site.
Put a link on your blog o.k.? maybe i'm one of the bidders. I think i'm going to list another doll this friday.

  12. Dear DessaRae, Hello again my friend! I hope everything is going great for you!I sell Internationally, and have had great luck with it, although it sometimes takes longer than expected, and you might have a few worrisome days. My International buyers are such sweet ladies, not that the US buyers aren't at all! I wish you the best of luck with it, and hope to see one of your sweet little dollies soon! hugs, Christel
